Barbados-India relations
The historical connection between Barbados and India can be traced back to the early 20th century when a significant number of Indians from regions such as Gujarat, Bengal, and Sindh began to emigrate to Barbados. This migration was primarily driven by economic opportunities, as many sought to improve their livelihoods and contribute to the growing economies of the Caribbean islands. According to historian Sabir Nakhuda, one of the first Indians to make this journey was Beshart Ali Dewan, who arrived in Barbados in 1910 from what is now West Bengal.
